About Marcel
From physics research to building AI systems
I started in physics research and found myself drawn to the practical applications of what I was learning. Today I work on AI and computer vision at rabbitAI.

The Journey
Academic Foundation
My PhD at Heidelberg University focused on light field reconstruction and 3D geometry algorithms. I developed methods for determining geometry, surface normals, and material properties of reflective objects using computer vision techniques.
This research taught me to work systematically with uncertainty and complex data—skills that turned out to be directly applicable to business problems.
Industry Transition
In late 2017, I joined AGT International as a senior data scientist while finishing my PhD research. This overlap allowed me to bridge academic work with practical implementation, showing me how scientific approaches could solve real business challenges.
I completed my PhD in 2018 and continued at AGT through early 2019, gaining valuable experience in applying analytical methods to technology problems.
Building rabbitAI
In 2019, I co-founded rabbitAI with the goal of bringing rigorous computer vision solutions to enterprise customers. We work on spatial reasoning problems for companies ranging from Big Tech to automotive Tier 1 suppliers.
As CTO, I lead R&D teams and focus on building solutions that work reliably in production. The technical challenges we solve often require the same systematic thinking I developed during research—breaking down complex problems and building solutions from fundamentals.
